| A Murut lady takes a drink of tapai, a traditional rice wine, using bamboo straws. The straws have a special significance when strangers came to the longhouse in earlier times they could sip from the communal jug with their own drinking straw, thus ensuring it was not poisoned. The jugs they are drinking from are centuries-old family heirlooms most Borneo people believe it is impossible to brew good rice wine in a modern plastic or metal container. Sapulut, 1985. | ||
